Easy Ways to Help Your Credit Score

A lot of people don’t realize that they have terrible credit until it is too late, but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t any ways that you can improve your credit score. You don’t have to hire a fancy credit repair service or visit a professional to be able to take advantage of some simple ways to help your credit. Although the 3 major credit bureaus don’t do you any favors by making the credit scoring process extremely complicated and complex, we’ll help you cut through all that to find out what you can do to fix the gaps in your credit profile and make any immediate improvements that you can.

The first thing you can do to easily improve your credit score is to pay off any debt that you might have, and by debt I mean terrible debt such as collections or unpaid bills. Find a way to pull a copy of your credit report (there are several ways you can do it for free) and then look for the things that show up in your collections or unpaid debts profile. If you don’t have the money to pay them all off, you can start by paying them off one by one. Many times, if you contact the collection agency that is handling the debt and offer to settle, they will mark the debt as paid for as small as 30%-50% of the balance.

Once you have taken care of any terrible debt, the next step is to start paying down any revolving loans and credit card balances. The goal is to keep your credit balances at around 10%-20% at most, so if your balances are higher than that you should pay what you can until they are not. Start with the highest interest card and work your way towards the lowest interest card. This will help you get ahead much quicker.

The last thing you can do is to get a low interest loan to consolidate all of your excellent and terrible debt under one umbrella. This will allow you to show all your terrible accounts as paid off and will prove that you were able to get your debt under control. I don’t recommend closing all of your accounts though, because an older account helps your credit score much more than a newer account. Once you have a few excellent cards and have closed the rest, then you can start rebuilding your credit profile.

Repairing credit is never a quick fix, but with these steps you can certainly improve your credit in the small and long term. The most vital thing you can do is to pay your bills on time and pay off any terrible debt that shows on your credit report. Once you’ve done that, then you should work on your credit cards and loans until they are simple to manage. Do not get any new accounts unless they are used to consolidate the ancient ones. Keep paying on time and eventually you will find yourself the owner of a very nice credit score.
